Deep Sea Fishing
Fishing of the shores of Zanzibar is great all year round. Big Game fishing is Zanzibar is on a par with some of the best fishing in the world. When the winds of the Kaskazi start to blow the billfish arrive in great numbers. The two seasons are Yellowfin Tuna season when traditionally runs from August through to the end of October and the Marlin season which runs from December to mid March.
Which fish can I expect to catch and when?
Billfish
The Pemba Channel provides has no less than six species of billfish including Black, Blue and Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Broadbill Swordfish and the elusive Shortbill Spearfish. This makes fishing exciting and increases your chances of catching a ‘big’ one
Striped and black Marlin
The prime Marlin season runs from mid November to end of March.
Blue Marlin
During August to end October large Blues can be found amongst the Tuna. Blues and Blacks follow, and gorge on, the shoals of Yellowfin Tuna at this time of the year and are usually fatter than later in the season.
Broadbill
All year but best in October, November and March when the seas are very calm.
Sailfish
These are traditionally seen and caught throughout the fishing season but are most prolific from December to January.
Shortbill Spearfish
Mid November to end of March with December being the best month.
Tuna
August to October provides excellent sport for Tuna. Some of the Tuna are huge and can put up a long, exciting and exhausting fight.
